Odisha Rain Alert: Orange Warning for Bargarh as Heavy Rain Continues Across State

Heavy rainfall is expected to continue across Odisha today, with the Odisha Rain Alert remaining in effect for several districts. Weather authorities have indicated that while coastal Odisha is likely to witness comparatively less severe conditions, western parts of the state are expected to experience intense rainfall.

An Orange Alert has been issued for Bargarh district, warning of very heavy rainfall. Residents have been advised to remain alert as prolonged rain may lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas and localized disruptions.

Yellow Alerts for Seven Districts

Apart from Bargarh, Yellow Alerts have been issued for seven districts:

  • Jharsuguda
  • Sambalpur
  • Subarnapur
  • Balangir
  • Kalahandi
  • Nuapada
  • Nabarangpur

These districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall during the day. People living in vulnerable areas have been advised to monitor official weather updates and take necessary precautions while travelling.

Although coastal Odisha has received relatively reassuring weather projections compared to western regions, intermittent rainfall is still expected in many places.

Rainfall Pattern Raises Concern in Eastern Ghats

Alongside the immediate weather forecast, recent observations have highlighted a significant shift in rainfall patterns across the Eastern Ghats in southern Odisha.

The undivided Koraput region has witnessed a noticeable decline in monsoon rainfall over the past few years. Records covering the period from 2024 to 2026 indicate that seasonal rainfall has weakened progressively, raising concerns about changing weather trends in the region.

Experts continue to monitor these developments as changing rainfall patterns can have long-term implications for agriculture, water resources and local ecosystems that depend heavily on consistent monsoon rainfall.

Authorities Continue Monitoring the Situation

Officials are closely monitoring rainfall activity across the state as the monsoon remains active. Residents in districts under weather alerts are encouraged to stay informed through official advisories and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall.

With the Odisha Rain Alert continuing today, western Odisha remains the primary area of concern due to the possibility of very heavy rainfall, while weather conditions across the rest of the state are expected to remain under observation.
