The first Monday of Shravan Odisha witnessed a large gathering of devotees at Shiva temples across the state as people observed one of the holiest days dedicated to Lord Shiva. From the early hours of the morning, thousands of worshippers and Kanwariyas visited prominent Shaivite shrines to offer holy water and seek divine blessings.
Devotees began their spiritual journey before sunrise by collecting sacred water from rivers and other water bodies. The Mahanadi River remained one of the major sources where many Kanwariyas filled their pots before proceeding towards temples for the traditional Jal Abhishek ritual.
The holy month of Shravan holds immense religious significance for followers of Lord Shiva. Mondays during this sacred month are considered especially auspicious, prompting devotees to observe prayers, fasting, and temple visits. The first Monday traditionally attracts a large number of pilgrims who participate in worship with deep faith and devotion.
Many of the state’s well-known Shiva temples experienced a steady flow of visitors throughout the day. Devotees patiently waited in queues to offer holy water, flowers, and prayers as part of the religious observance. The atmosphere at the temples reflected the spiritual fervour associated with the beginning of the Shravan Mondays.
Kanwariyas carrying decorated water pots were seen travelling to temples after collecting water, following a long-standing tradition observed every year during the holy month. The ritual of offering sacred water to Lord Shiva is regarded as an expression of devotion and a prayer for peace, prosperity, and well-being.
The first Monday of Shravan once again highlighted Odisha’s rich spiritual traditions, with thousands of devotees participating in rituals across the state. Religious activities are expected to continue throughout the month as more devotees visit Shiva temples on the remaining Mondays of Shravan to perform Jal Abhishek and offer prayers.
