Bhubaneswar Ravan Dahan: Fire Services Inspect Venues Ahead of Celebrations

Fire Services Department officials have inspected venues in Bhubaneswar ahead of the scheduled Ravan Dahan celebrations, as the state capital prepares for Vijayadashami on October 21, 2026. Police have granted permission for the traditional effigy-burning ceremonies at nine locations across the city.

The inspections are part of preparations to help ensure that the celebrations take place safely. Ravan Dahan, also known as Ravana Podi, is a traditional Dussehra event that symbolises the victory of good over evil.

Nine Locations Receive Permission for Ravan Dahan

The Commissionerate Police has approved Ravan Dahan celebrations at nine locations in Bhubaneswar. The events are being organised by different committees as part of the Vijayadashami festivities.

With people expected to gather at the venues to watch the effigies burn, safety arrangements have become an important part of the preparations. Fire Services inspections are intended to check the event locations before the celebrations begin.

Fire Safety and Crowd Management Measures

Authorities have also issued safety instructions to organisers. According to reports, the police have directed organisers to maintain a minimum distance of 100 metres between the Ravan Dahan site and spectators, with barricades required around the designated area.

Fire service teams have been arranged for the approved venues, while police personnel will assist with crowd management. These measures are intended to reduce potential risks during the public gatherings.

Organisers are expected to follow the prescribed safety guidelines while conducting the events. The inspections and security arrangements form part of the broader effort to manage the festival crowds and minimise the possibility of accidents.

Safety Remains a Priority During the Festivities

Ravan Dahan draws public attention as one of the major events marking the culmination of Dussehra celebrations. However, gatherings involving large crowds and the burning of effigies require careful planning and coordination among event organisers and authorities.

The Fire Services Department’s inspections, along with police permissions and safety requirements, are intended to support the orderly conduct of the celebrations across Bhubaneswar.

As the city observes Vijayadashami, Bhubaneswar Ravan Dahan preparations highlight the importance of fire safety, crowd control and cooperation between organisers and authorities to help ensure safer celebrations.
