Odisha Weather: Rain Alert in 9 Districts Today

Several parts of Odisha are likely to experience light to moderate rain and thunderstorms on Thursday, October 1, with the weather activity mainly affecting northern and coastal districts. The India Meteorological Department’s Met Centre in Bhubaneswar has issued a warning for thunderstorm and lightning activity on the day.

The latest forecast indicates that rainfall could be accompanied by lightning and gusty winds in some areas. According to a report published by Odisha Television on October 1, gusty winds of around 30–40 kmph are also likely in the districts covered by the warning.

Nine Odisha districts under Yellow Warning

A Yellow Warning has been issued for nine districts for Thursday. These are:

  • Sundargarh
  • Keonjhar
  • Mayurbhanj
  • Balasore
  • Bhadrak
  • Jajpur
  • Kendrapara
  • Jagatsinghpur
  • Cuttack

The forecast points to thunderstorms and rain in parts of these districts, particularly across northern and coastal Odisha. Residents in the affected areas may therefore see changing weather conditions during the day.

Rain, lightning and gusty winds expected

The weather system is expected to bring a combination of rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning in the warned districts. Gusty surface winds reaching 30–40 kmph are also likely, according to the reported forecast.

The Yellow Warning indicates that people should remain alert to changing weather conditions, particularly during periods of thunderstorm and lightning activity.

No rain forecast from October 2 to 7

The weather outlook is expected to change from Friday. The Regional Meteorological Centre has forecast no rainfall in Odisha from October 2 through October 7. The IMD’s Odisha subdivision warning also shows no warning for the state from October 2 to October 7.

This means Thursday’s weather activity is expected to be followed by a period without significant rainfall warnings across the state during the following six days.

For residents in the nine districts under the Yellow Warning, the immediate focus remains on today’s thunderstorm and rainfall conditions. The Odisha weather outlook for the coming days indicates a shift toward drier conditions from October 2 onward, based on the latest forecast available on October 1.
