The Odisha government’s Drinking Water Department has deployed a mobile water treatment van to provide safe drinking water to residents affected by floods in Kanas Block of Puri district. Although floodwaters have started receding in several villages, access to clean and potable drinking water remains a major challenge for many families.
To address the shortage, the mobile treatment unit is collecting muddy river water and purifying it through an onboard water treatment system. The treated water is then packed into drinking water packets and distributed among flood-affected residents as part of the ongoing relief efforts.
Safe Drinking Water Remains a Priority
Even after floodwaters begin to withdraw, contamination of water sources often creates serious health concerns. Recognising the need for immediate access to clean drinking water, the Odisha government has introduced the mobile purification unit to ensure affected communities receive safe water until normal supplies are restored.
The initiative is helping bridge the gap in essential services in areas where regular drinking water sources have been impacted by flooding.
Water Purification Unit Supports Relief Operations
The mobile treatment van is designed to convert muddy river water into potable drinking water through a purification process before packaging it for distribution. This allows relief teams to reach people with safe drinking water without depending entirely on fixed water supply infrastructure.
