The Nandankanan orangutan case remains unresolved a week after the alleged orangutan transportation operation came under scrutiny. The Special Task Force (STF) is continuing its investigation, with a black SUV and a hotel in Digha reportedly remaining under the agency’s scanner from the beginning of the probe.
Suspicion has reportedly fallen on Digha-based hotel owner Jayanta Maiti and his son Sandeep Maiti in connection with the alleged racket. Both are reportedly absconding, while the hotel manager and five employees have been taken for questioning.
The investigation is focused on establishing the circumstances surrounding the alleged transportation of the orangutans and determining the people involved. Authorities are continuing to examine the available leads as the case develops.
Digha Hotel and SUV Under Scanner
The black SUV reportedly became an important part of the investigation, while a hotel in Digha has also remained under scrutiny.
The reported questioning of the hotel manager and five employees forms part of the ongoing probe. However, details about the findings of the questioning have not been provided.
The exact circumstances behind the alleged orangutan transportation also remain unclear based on the available information.
Five Orangutans at Nandankanan Set for Open Enclosure
While the investigation continues, five orangutans at Nandankanan are planned to be moved from their glass enclosure to an open enclosure.
The move is intended to help the young orangutans gradually adapt to their surroundings and Indian temperatures. It will also provide them with an outdoor environment as part of their care.
The transition is expected to be carried out with attention to their health and adaptation to the new surroundings.
Technical Committee Inspects Orangutan Care
A technical committee has also visited Nandankanan to assess the health and care being provided to the five rescued orangutans.
The committee inspected the quarantine centre where the orangutans are currently being kept. The inspection took place in the presence of the Nandankanan Director, Deputy Director and SVO.
The assessment comes as authorities continue to monitor the condition and care of the rescued animals.
The planned shift from the glass enclosure to an open enclosure is aimed at supporting the orangutans as they gradually become accustomed to the surrounding environment and local temperatures.
Investigation and Animal Care Continue
The developments at Nandankanan are unfolding alongside the ongoing STF investigation into the alleged transportation of the orangutans. While investigators continue to examine the reported links to Digha, officials at Nandankanan are focusing on the health, care and gradual environmental adaptation of the five rescued animals.
The Nandankanan orangutan case remains under investigation, and further details are expected as authorities continue their probe.
