Travellers heading to Puri are facing significant delays as heavy traffic congestion continues on the Bhubaneswar–Puri route. According to the latest updates, vehicles are taking up to two hours to cross the Malatipatpur area due to an exceptional increase in traffic linked to the ongoing Rath Yatra festivities.
The traffic buildup, which began during the night, has continued into the morning as thousands of devotees make their way to the holy city. Long queues of cars, buses, and other vehicles have been reported on the approach to Puri, slowing movement on one of the state’s busiest pilgrimage routes.
Heavy Rush of Devotees Slows Traffic
The annual Rath Yatra has drawn a large number of pilgrims from across Odisha and other parts of the country. The steady flow of visitors has significantly increased vehicle movement on the Bhubaneswar–Puri corridor, particularly near Malatipatpur, a key entry point into Puri.
As traffic volume continues to rise, commuters are experiencing slow-moving traffic and extended waiting times before reaching the city.
Travellers Advised to Plan Their Journey
Authorities have advised travellers to plan their journey in advance and allow extra travel time while heading towards Puri. Those travelling for darshan or festival-related activities are encouraged to monitor traffic conditions and be prepared for delays during peak hours.
Motorists are also advised to follow traffic instructions, maintain lane discipline, and cooperate with officials managing the movement of vehicles along the route.
Congestion Continues Since Last Night
The rush reportedly began late last night as pilgrims started arriving in large numbers ahead of the day’s festival activities. The continued inflow of devotees has kept traffic pressure high, with congestion persisting through the morning.
Several stretches approaching Puri have witnessed slow-moving traffic, making travel considerably longer than usual.
Pilgrim City Witnesses Massive Footfall
Rath Yatra remains one of Odisha’s largest religious festivals, attracting lakhs of devotees every year. The festival naturally leads to a sharp increase in road traffic as visitors travel to Puri to witness the grand chariot procession and participate in religious ceremonies.
