Authorities in Odisha have initiated strict action against several police personnel from Jharbundh police station in Bargarh district following allegations of links with ganja smugglers. The move came after reports surfaced regarding irregularities connected to the seizure of a large quantity of ganja in the area.
Police Personnel Suspended and Dismissed
As part of the disciplinary action:
- Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Kaushik Sahu has been suspended
- Constable Chittaranjan Panda has also been suspended
- Home guard Debarchan Nial has been dismissed from service
The action reflects the administration’s response to allegations involving police officials and ganja smugglers operating in the region.
Departmental Inquiry Initiated Against Jharbundh IIC
Jharbundh Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Shukra Madhi has been transferred to the district headquarters. Officials have also launched a departmental inquiry against him in connection with the case.
Meanwhile, Sanjay Kumar Parida, who was serving as the IIC of Bargarh Cyber Police Station, has been appointed to take charge at Jharbundh police station.
19 Quintals of Ganja Seized
The controversy reportedly emerged after the seizure of nearly 19 quintals of ganja in Jharbundh. Allegations later surfaced claiming that certain local police personnel had connections with the ganja mafia during the operation.
The incident has raised serious concerns regarding law enforcement accountability and anti-drug operations in the district.
