NEET-PG 2027: Ranks May Replace Percentiles Under Proposed Eligibility Changes

NEET-PG candidates may see a significant change in the eligibility system from 2027, with ranks potentially replacing percentiles as the basis for determining qualification. The proposal has been presented by the Central Government before the Supreme Court.

A 12-member expert committee, formed to recommend measures for improving transparency in medical entrance examinations, has submitted its report on the proposed change.

According to the proposal, the existing percentile-based eligibility system for NEET-PG could be replaced with a rank-based approach. If implemented, the change may alter how candidates are assessed for eligibility in the postgraduate medical entrance examination.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has also given preliminary approval to the proposal. However, the proposed system is yet to be finalised, and further decisions are awaited.

The possible change is expected to draw attention from medical graduates preparing for NEET-PG, as the eligibility criteria play an important role in the admission process for postgraduate medical courses.

Candidates should wait for an official notification from the concerned authorities before assuming that the new system will apply from 2027. Further details regarding the implementation and revised eligibility rules are awaited.
