A Komna loan fraud case has come to light in Odisha’s Nuapada district, where three women were allegedly cheated by a man who promised to arrange loans through a finance company. The accused reportedly convinced the women that he could help them secure loans ranging from ₹75,000 to ₹1 lakh before allegedly fleeing with their mobile phones.
According to the information available, the incident took place in the Komna area of Nuapada district. The accused allegedly approached the women with an offer to help them obtain financial assistance through a finance company.
To complete the supposed loan process, he reportedly informed the women that they would receive a One-Time Password (OTP) on their mobile phones. Claiming that he needed to verify the OTP, he collected their mobile phones.
The three victims have been identified as Laxmi Raut, Sangita Barge, and Meena Bishi.
Accused Allegedly Escaped With Mobile Phones
After taking possession of the women’s mobile phones, the accused allegedly photographed a few nearby shops, creating the impression that he was completing formalities related to the loan application.
However, instead of returning the devices, he reportedly fled from the spot with all three expensive mobile phones, leaving the women shocked.
The alleged incident highlights how fraudsters continue to misuse the promise of quick financial assistance to target unsuspecting people.
Police Begin Investigation
Following the complaint, Komna Police Station registered the matter and initiated an investigation into the alleged fraud.
Police are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident and are working to identify and trace the accused. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
Authorities have not released additional information regarding the suspect or the recovery of the stolen mobile phones at the time of writing.
Residents are advised to remain cautious while dealing with unknown individuals offering financial services or loan assistance. Official loan applications should always be completed through authorised institutions, and personal devices or sensitive information should not be handed over to strangers without proper verification.
The Komna loan fraud case remains under investigation, and further updates are likely once police make progress in the inquiry.
