The Bhubaneswar GRP has arrested a woman accused of stealing cash and jewellery from a train passenger at Bhubaneswar railway station. Police said the accused allegedly targeted a woman passenger and stole valuables from her vanity bag while she was at the station.
According to the information provided by the Government Railway Police (GRP), the incident took place on Platform No. 1 of Bhubaneswar Railway Station. The complainant, a woman passenger from Jajpur district, alleged that ₹10,000 in cash and a gold chain had been stolen from her vanity bag.
Following the complaint, the Bhubaneswar GRP immediately launched an investigation. During the probe, police identified and arrested Yuli Baidya, a resident of Raypara area in Bardhaman district of West Bengal, in connection with the alleged theft.
Police said the accused had been targeting train passengers and allegedly committed the theft while the victim was at the railway station. During the investigation, the GRP recovered the stolen cash and the gold chain that had reportedly been taken from the passenger’s bag.
The recovered valuables have been seized as part of the investigation. Police have not disclosed any additional details regarding whether the accused was linked to other similar theft cases.
Railway stations witness heavy passenger movement every day, making travellers vulnerable to theft if they are not careful with their belongings. Authorities continue to advise passengers to keep a close watch on their luggage and valuables while travelling or waiting at railway stations.
The Bhubaneswar GRP stated that prompt action following the complaint helped police trace the accused and recover the stolen items. The investigation into the case is continuing.
