Cuttack Bali Jatra to Be Organised as a Plastic-Free Event This Year

Cuttack’s historic Bali Jatra is set to adopt an environmentally friendly approach this year, with plans to organise the grand annual fair as a plastic-free event. The festival is scheduled to take place from November 24 to December 1.

The initiative aims to reduce plastic waste during one of Odisha’s largest cultural gatherings and encourage visitors, vendors and organisers to adopt more sustainable practices.

The state government has proposed a grant of ₹10 crore for organising the annual festival. The proposed financial support is expected to help facilitate arrangements for the event and support its large-scale organisation.

Bali Jatra, held annually on the banks of the Mahanadi River in Cuttack, celebrates Odisha’s historic maritime trade links and the tradition of Boita Bandana. The festival attracts visitors from across Odisha and beyond, featuring cultural programmes, food stalls, exhibitions and various commercial activities.

Making the event plastic-free is expected to bring greater attention to environmental responsibility while preserving the cultural significance of the fair.

Further details about the implementation of the plastic-free initiative and arrangements for vendors and visitors are awaited.
