First Fog of the Year Blankets Bhubaneswar After Cyclone Arnab; Traffic Affected

Bhubaneswar, October 31: Residents of Bhubaneswar woke up to an unusual weather scene on Saturday morning as a thick blanket of fog covered several parts of the city. The state capital experienced its first fog of the year, surprising residents and affecting normal traffic movement.

The fog reduced visibility across roads and residential areas, making it difficult for motorists to navigate during the early morning hours. Vehicles moved cautiously as commuters faced challenges due to the limited visibility.

Dense Fog Covers Bhubaneswar

A thick layer of fog enveloped parts of Bhubaneswar early Saturday, obscuring buildings, trees and roads. The sudden change in weather created a noticeably different atmosphere across the city.

According to local media reports, visibility dropped to around 150 metres in several areas, affecting road movement and slowing down traffic.

The foggy conditions were particularly noticeable during the morning commute, when residents were travelling to workplaces and other destinations.

Cyclone Arnab’s Departure Brings a Change in Weather

The unusual fog appeared after Cyclone Arnab moved away from the region. Following the cyclone’s impact, night-time temperatures have reportedly dropped, bringing a slight chill to Bhubaneswar.

The change has created cooler conditions during the night and early morning, giving residents an early indication of the seasonal transition towards winter.

Motorists Face Visibility Challenges

Poor visibility made driving difficult across several roads in the capital. Commuters had to reduce their speed and remain alert while travelling through fog-covered stretches.

Motorists are advised to:

  • Drive slowly and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.
  • Use fog lights or low-beam headlights where necessary.
  • Avoid sudden braking and unnecessary overtaking.
  • Stay alert at intersections and while approaching busy roads.

These precautions can help reduce the risk of road accidents during foggy conditions.

A Cooler Morning in the State Capital

The first foggy morning of the year has brought a noticeable change to Bhubaneswar’s weather. The combination of cooler nights and reduced morning visibility has surprised residents after the recent spell of cyclone-related weather.

As the weather transitions towards the winter season, residents will be watching for further changes in temperature and morning conditions.

For now, commuters are advised to remain cautious while travelling during early morning hours, particularly when fog reduces visibility on city roads.
