Two police personnel have been suspended after an accused allegedly escaped from the Women’s Police Station in Bhubaneswar. The action was taken by the Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) following the security lapse.
According to the available information, the suspended officials include the sentry and the Duty Custody Officer (DCO), both of whom were on duty when the incident occurred.
The accused has been identified as Rudra Prasad Sutar, a resident of Erada village under Sabarang Police Station in Bhadrak district. He had been arrested on Thursday in connection with an alleged love and cheating case and was being kept in custody at the Women’s Police Station.
The escape reportedly took place on Friday morning. As per the information available, the Duty Custody Officer had gone to the bathroom, while the sentry was serving breakfast. During that time, the accused allegedly pushed the sentry and managed to flee from the police station.
Following the incident, the Bhubaneswar DCP ordered the immediate suspension of the two police personnel who were responsible for the accused’s custody during the time of the escape.
The incident has raised concerns over security arrangements at the police station, particularly regarding the handling and monitoring of accused persons in custody. No additional official details regarding the search operation or the accused’s whereabouts have been released so far.
Authorities are expected to continue efforts to trace the escaped accused while examining the circumstances that led to the security breach. Further action, if any, is likely to depend on the findings of the ongoing inquiry.
