Kandhamal, Odisha: Commuters travelling through Kandhamal district have received relief as the Kalinga Ghat road has reopened after remaining closed for 46 days due to the risk of landslides. Kandhamal Collector Bedabhushan has permitted all categories of vehicles to use the route from November 7, restoring traffic movement along this important road.
The road had been closed to vehicular movement on September 23 after authorities identified potential landslide risks. The restriction was imposed as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of commuters travelling through the ghat section.
With the reopening order, both light and heavy vehicles can now travel along the Kalinga Ghat route. The decision is expected to ease transportation difficulties for people who depend on this road for regular travel and connectivity.
Ghajalbadi Ghat Road Also Reopens With Restrictions
In another development, the Ghajalbadi Ghat road, which was closed in view of Cyclone Arnab, has also reopened from November 7.
However, unlike Kalinga Ghat, vehicle movement on the Ghajalbadi Ghat route remains restricted. Authorities have permitted only light vehicles to operate on this road.
The restriction means that heavy vehicles will not be allowed to use the Ghajalbadi Ghat route until further instructions are issued by the concerned authorities.
Different Traffic Rules for the Two Routes
The reopening of both roads is expected to improve connectivity in the region. However, commuters should be aware of the different traffic permissions currently applicable to the two routes.
While all categories of vehicles can now travel through Kalinga Ghat, Ghajalbadi Ghat remains accessible only to light vehicles.
People planning to travel through these routes should follow the applicable traffic instructions and remain cautious while driving through the hilly stretches.
The reopening of Kalinga Ghat road after 46 days marks an important step towards restoring normal road connectivity in Kandhamal district. With Ghajalbadi Ghat also reopened under limited vehicle movement, commuters can expect improved travel options while the restrictions on heavy vehicles remain in place.
